Abstract: The malaria-causing parasite Plasmodium has a complex life cycle involving both vertebrate and mosquito hosts. Sexual stages or gametocytes are the only stage competent for transmission to mosquitoes. Formation of flagellated male gametes from gametocytes requires rapid rounds of genome replication.
