“…El principal propósito de aplicar el proceso CQ como pretratamiento es alcanzar una alta remoción de los sólidos suspendidos totales (SST) (Silva et al 2016). La turbidez residual es una medida indirecta de la cantidad de SST, cuya medición es fácil y rápida (APHA 2012) y proporciona una idea precisa de la eficiencia del proceso de coagulación.…”

“…The integrated oxidative process endorses a global COD removal of 56.6% and enhanced the biodegradability (BOD 5 /COD = 0.4). After biological treatment (7 days) 74% of COD removal was achieved [82] Note: 1 high pH is due to washing of various items of equipment with KOH.…”

“…The results reported here showed that the decontamination performance of such a treatment design can easily exceed that of one of the most attractive methods available. Furthermore, Fenton's peroxidation is a well‐established, cost‐effective wastewater treatment method (Amaral‐Silva et al, 2016), and biofilters can be assembled at a marginal cost by using a freshwater pest. Therefore, integrated Fenton's process‐biofiltration has the potential to be affordable for small‐ to medium‐size wineries common in many regions, such as southern Europe, that can only allocate limited budgets to effluent management.…”

“…To some extent, the oxidation step deals with the fluctuation of the effluent's organic load and the biorefractory components, improving the efficiency of the subsequent biological treatment, which is otherwise very low. Also, the oxidation step serves to optimize the scale of the activated sludge unit (Amaral‐Silva et al, 2016). Even so, some issues persist in such a combined treatment approach.…”
