A new vic-dioxime ligand containing two azo substituents and its mononuclear nickel(II), cobalt(II), and copper(II) complexes; synthesis, characterization, spectroscopic and biological studies

Abstract: A new vicinal dioxime ligand containing azo and thione chromophores, namely 1,3-bis[4-(phenyldiazenyl)-phenyl]-2-thiooxaimidazoline-4,5-dione dioxime (bppH 2 ), was synthesized by the reaction of cyanogen di-N-oxide with N,N 0 -bis(4-phenylazophenyl) thiourea in dichloromethane solution at -10°C. Mononuclear complexes of bppH 2 with nickel(II), cobalt(II), and copper(II) were synthesized. The complexes, [Ni(bppH) 2 ], [Cu(bppH) 2 ], and [Co(bppH) 2 ] were characterized by several techniques using elemental ana… Show more

“…This increased lipophilicity enhances the penetration of the complexes into lipid membranes and blocks the metal binding sites on enzymes of microorganisms. The results in this work are accord with those reported previously that the complexes have more antibacterial activity than the corresponding free ligands [36,37].…”

“…The IR spectrum of the free Schiff base ligand exhibited a band at 3374 cm −1 which is assigned to ν (OH) of oxime group [ 27 ]. This band remains more or less at the same position in all the complexes indicating the nonparticipation of this OH group in bonding.…”

“…12,13 They have also attracted attention due to their possible antimicrobial applications. 14,15 The ortho-hydroxy-aryloximes act as excellent bidentate ligands through the nitrogen and oxygen donor atoms. Their metal complexes are well-recognized extractants that find industrial applications in extractive metallurgy and separation science.…”
