“…The calculated Kerr angles for the (111) surface orientation are in a qualitatively good agreement with the experimental data from van Drent and Suzuki [33,34]. Although the peaks in the theoretical spectra are all centered at lower photon energies than in experiments, the measured oscillations of Kerr angles in the case of Co(3 Å )/Pt(11 Å ) layers are well reproduced by the calculations.…”

“…A reason of this shift in energy is the Pt substrate used in calculations, which has a significantly smaller lattice constant (3.92 Å ) than Si (5.43 Å ) or 800 Å SiN used as support for the layered samples during the deposition. Thus quite obviously the bandstructure of all Co/Pt layered systems investigated in here is wider than that of the measured probes [33]. Quantitatively, the calculated Kerr angles are approximatively 15 times smaller in magnitude than the experimental ones.…”

“…Fig. 4(a) shows the photon energy dependence of Kerr rotation of (1 0 0) and (1 1 1) (FeCo) 3 Pt sample grown onto MgO(1 0 0) and Al 2 O 3 (0 0 Á 1) and the present results are compared with the previous published results of FCC Co (1 1 1) and (1 0 0) sample measured by Van Drent et al [8]. Although for the case of FCC Co, the Kerr rotation variation is noticeable due to the its different orientation, the variation of Kerr rotation of (FeCo) 3 Pt case is not significant for its different orientation.…”

“…A vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) with a maximum applied field of 15 kOe was used to measure the magnetic properties of the films in the range from T ¼ À196 to 350 1C. A homemade ultra-wide band magneto-optical Kerr effect (MOKE) apparatus [9] with a maximum applied field of 20 kOe was employed to characterize the magneto-optical properties of the samples at varied temperatures from T ¼ 25 to 200 1C. Fig.…”
