In this paper, a methodology based on the combination of time series modeling and soft computational methods is presented to model and forecast bathtub-shaped failure rate data of newly marketed consumer electronics. The timedependent functions of historical failure rates are typified by parameters of an analytic model that grabs the most important characteristics of these curves. The proposed approach is also verified by the presentation of an industrial application brought along at an electrical repair service provider company. The prediction capability of the introduced methodology is compared with moving average-based and exponential smoothing-based forecasting methods. According to the results of comparison, the presented method can be considered as a viable alternative reliability prediction technique. Copyright

This paper introduces a new two-parameter lifetime distribution, called the exponential-generalized truncated geometric (EGTG) distribution, by compounding the exponential with the generalized truncated geometric distributions. The new distribution involves two important known distributions, i.e., the exponential-geometric (Adamidis and Loukas, 1998) and the extended (complementary) exponential-geometric distributions (Adamidis et al., 2005; in the minimum and maximum lifetime cases, respectively. General forms of the probability distribution, the survival and the failure rate functions as well as their properties are presented for some special cases. The application study is illustrated based on two real data sets.

This paper introduces the four parameter new generalized inverse Weibull distribution and investigates the potential usefulness of this model with application to reliability data from engineering studies. The new extended model has upside-down hazard rate function and provides an alternative to existing lifetime distributions. Various structural properties of the new distribution are derived that include explicit expressions for the moments, moment generating function, quantile function and the moments of order statistics. The estimation of model parameters are performed by the method of maximum likelihood and evaluate the performance of maximum likelihood estimation using simulation.
