A new thermal-tolerant bio-based zwitterionic surfactant for enhanced oil recovery

Abstract: Bio-based surfactants are increasingly important as an alternative to traditional petro-based surfactants owing to their renewable feedstocks and various applications in many industrial fields such as enhanced oil recovery (EOR). In this study, a new bio-based zwitterionic surfactant with strong interfacial activity at high temperature up to 120 °C was developed through the modification of the methyl oleate derived from renewable non-edible oils. The synthetic route was optimized to promote the conversion rate… Show more

“…Theoretically, the tertiary oil recovery can achieve up to 60–70% OOIP. In recent years, tertiary oil recovery technology has played an important role in supporting the stability of oil production. , However, the residual oil after the reservoir employed second oil recovery methods still faces the major challenge of the above-mentioned tertiary EOR technology, , which urgently needs further research on new development methods.…”
