A new sphingolipid from the gorgonianjunceella junceaof the Indian ocean

Abstract: A new sphingolipid, (2S,3R,4E)-1,3-dihydroxy-2-[(nonadecanoyl) amino]-octadec-4-ene (1) along with ubiquitous batyl alcohol is isolated from the gorgonian, Junceella juncea Pallas (Gorgonaceae) of the Indian Ocean. The structure of 1 is determined on the basis of 1H- and 13C-NMR, COSY, FABMS, and GC-EIMS experiments.

“…The sphingosines 473 and 474 were obtained as mildly antibacterial components of an Indian Ocean gorgonian Pseudopterogorgia australiensis. 493 Structurally-related lipids 475 494 and 476 495 were isolated from Junceella juncea and a Lobophytum species respectively, with stereochemical assignments of 475 being made by analysis of hydrolysis products. An Alcyonium species (Senegal) was the source of glycolipids 477 and 478.…”

“…The ceramide N-1-hydroxymethyl-2-hydroxy-(E, E)-3,7-heptadecadienylhexadecanoamide ( Liu et al, 2001 ), thymine, and uracil were isolated from Acropora pulchra ※ (Brook; Xu et al (2003) ). In addition to different corals, such as Litophyton arboreum ( Abou El-Kassem et al, 2018 ) and Junceella juncea ※ ( Pallas ; Krishna et al (2004) ), Lobophytum chevalieri ( Li et al, 1989 ) has bioactive ceramides. The structure diagram is shown in Figure 4 .…”

“…The ethyl acetate extract of J. juncea also showed antibacterial activities toward Bacillus subtilis , B. pumilis and Escherichia coli [39]. Six new briaranes, juncins I–M ( 59 – 63 ) [40] and juncenolide B ( 64 ) [41], a new sphingolipid, (2 R ,3 R ,4 E )-1,3-dihydroxy-2-[(nonadecanoyl) amino]-octadec-4-ene ( 65 ) [42] (Table 6), along with four known briaranes, gemmacolides A–C and juncin H [40], were obtained from the gorgonian coral J. juncea , collected from Tuticorin Coast of the Indian Ocean.…”
