Abstract: Terellia ptilostemi sp. n., a previously unknown peculiar species of the genus Terellia Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830 is described based on the holotype and a large series of paratypes reared from Ptilostemon rhiphaeus (Pau & Font Quer) Greuter (Asteraceae, Cardueae) in Tetouan and Chefchaouen Provinces of Western Morocco. A list of 128 host plant species of Tephritidae from Morocco is provided. Of these plants, 34 are reported for the first time as hosts for Tephritidae in Morocco, while 41 taxa are newly discovered hosts for Tephritidae globally. Six species are confirmed as host plants. A total of 41 species of Tephritidae were reared from flowers, flower heads, galls, or fleshy fruits collected in the field and brought to the laboratory for rearing. For these tephritid species, the host plants in Morocco were studied for the first time. Illustrations of some endemic host plant species are also provided.

This work presents new data on six families, 23 genera and 30 species, 11 of which are new to North Africa: Campiglossa bidentis (Robineau-Devosidy, 1830), Carpomya (Goniglossum) wiedemanni (Meigen, 1826), Ceroxys hortulana (Rossi, 1790), Myennis octopunctata (Coquebert, 1798), Palloptera scutellata (Macquart, 1835), Physiphora clausa (Macquart, 1843), Platystoma lugubre (Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830), Seioptera vibrans (Linnaeus, 1758), Tephritis luteipes Merz 1992, Toxoneura muliebris (Harris, 1780), and Urophora hispanica Strobl 1906. Herina gyrans (Loew, 1864), Melieria omissa (Meigen, 1826), and Stearibia nigriceps Meigen, 1826 are recorded for the first time from Morocco. Dorycera punctulata Ackerman, El Harym & Freidberg, new species (Ulidiidae), is described based on specimens from Morocco. The following synonymy is established: Platystoma meridionale Hendel, 1913 = Platystoma idia Séguy, 1934, new synonym. One species of the genus Priscoearomyia is possibly a new species to be described in forthcoming revisions of this genus.

Catalogue of the Diptera (Insecta) of Morocco— an annotated checklist, with distributions and a bibliography

The faunistic knowledge of the Diptera of Morocco recorded from 1787 to 2021 is summarized and updated in this first catalogue of Moroccan Diptera species. A total of 3057 species, classified into 948 genera and 93 families (21 Nematocera and 72 Brachycera), are listed. Taxa (superfamily, family, genus and species) have been updated according to current interpretations, based on reviews in the literature, the expertise of authors and contributors, and recently conducted fieldwork. Data to compile this catalogue were primarily gathered from the literature. In total, 1225 references were consulted and some information was also obtained from online databases. Each family was reviewed and the checklist updated by the respective taxon expert(s), including the number of species that can be expected for that family in Morocco. For each valid species, synonyms known to have been used for published records from Morocco are listed under the currently accepted name. Where available, distribution within Morocco is also included. One new combination is proposed: Assuania melanoleuca (Séguy, 1941), comb. nov. (Chloropidae).
