A new species of Postumius (Acari: Stigmaeidae) from Asian Russia with COI barcode

Abstract

Female and male of a new species, Postumius asiaticus sp. nov. (Acari: Stigmaeidae) are described from wet soil in the Asian Russia (Kurgan region and Buryatia). A fragment of the COI barcoding gene was sequenced to facilitate DNA-based identification. The genus Postumius Kuznetsov is reported from Asia for the first time. The male is described for the first time in the genus Postumius. A key to species of Postumius is also provided.
