A new species of Triplophysa (Nemacheilidae: Cypriniformes), from Guangxi, southern China

Abstract: A new species, Triplophysa huapingensis, is described from the Hongshuihe River, Guangxi, China. The new species is distinguished from other species of Triplophysa by the following combination of characters: body covered with scales, lateral line complete, eyes not degenerate, dorsal fin truncate, caudal fin forked, tip of pelvic fin not reaching anus, eight branched rays of dorsal fin, six branched rays of pelvic fin, 16 branched rays of caudal fin, grey and black diffused blotches on dorsal and lateral head … Show more

“…According to Allaix and Carbone [14] , the random field is discretized into rectangular meshes with equal size of 10mm×10mm for the purpose of accuracy and convergence. In the light of the compensational length theory [15] , the compensational lengths for 10-year and 30-year are L 10 =110.2mm and L 30 =190.9mm respectively. Then, the sizes of 150mm×150mm and 150mm×200mm are used in the analysis accordingly.…”

“…According to Lan et al (2013), Triplophysa species of the Pearl River can be placed into three groups depending on whether their eyes are normal sized, reduced or absent. Among these 33 species, 16 have normal eyes, 5 have reduced eyes and 12 species have lost their eyes completely (Table 1; Lan et al, 2013;Li et al, 2017aLi et al, , 2017bLin et al, 2012;Ren et al, 2012;Wu et al, 2018;Zheng et al, 2012).…”

“…Five species belong to the group with reduced eyes, namely T. langpingensis Yang, 2013, T. luochengensis Li, Lan, Chen & Du, 2017, T. macrocephala Yang, Wu & Yang, 2012, T. tianeensis Chen, Cui & Yang, 2004, and T. tianlinensis Li, Li & Lan, 2017. The group without eyes includes eight species, namely, T. dongganensis Yang, 2013, T. fengshanensis Lan, 2013, T. gejiuensis Chu & Chen, 1979, T. huanjiangensis Yang, Wu & Lan, 2011, T. lihuensis Wu, Yang & Lan, 2012, T. longibarbata Chen, Yang, Sket & Aljancic, 1998, T. qiubeiensis Li & Yang, 2008, and T. shilinensis Chen & Yang, 1992 (Zheng et al 2012, Lan et al 2013, Zhang and Zhao 2016, Li and Li 2017, Li and Lan 2017). In May 2012, two specimens of nemacheiline loach were collected from a karst cave in Anshui Village, Lingyun County, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China.…”
