“…(1%-2%) are within the intraspecific distance thresholds already reported in studies of other Simuliidae species (e.g., Hamada et al, 2010;Hernández-Triana et al, 2012;Nascimento et al, 2016Nascimento et al, , 2020Nascimento et al, , 2021Pramual & Nanork, 2012;Rivera & Currie, 2009). “…The genetic‐distance values between Simulium ‘S’ and S. oyapockense s.s . (2.9%–3.1%) (Table 2) are considered to be intraspecific distances in many Simuliidae species (e.g., Hernández‐Triana et al, 2012; Nascimento et al, 2020; Rivera & Currie, 2009), however the morphological differences previously reported and the high posterior probability value of the clade referring to this species in the topology retrieved from the Bayesian inference support this population as a monophyletic group distinct from S. oyapockense s.s . (Table 2).…”

“…The lumper's concept of S. (Trichodagmia) (Shelley et al 2010;Hernández 2011) Rubtsov, 1947 [= Albellum species-group]. Altogether, it includes 78 valid species distributed in diverse biogeographical regions in six species-groups: the Albellum species-group (Palearctic, 15 species), the Canadense species-group (Nearctic and Neotropical, 20 species), the Orbitale species-group (Neotropical, 21 species), the Pictipes speciesgroup (Nearctic, three species), and the Tarsatum species-group (Nearctic and Neotropical, 19 species) (Adler 2020;Nascimento et al 2020). According to this classification, the subgenus is the fifth largest among Simulium subgenera in terms of number of species and one of the most widespread in the world.…”
