A New Software Platform to Improve Multidisciplinary Tumor Board Workflows and User Satisfaction: A Pilot Study

Abstract: Background:Workflow and preparation for holding multidisciplinary cancer case reviews (i.e., Tumor Boards) is time-consuming and cumbersome. Use of a software platform might improve this process. This pilot study assessed the impact of a new software platform on tumor board preparation workflow and user satisfaction compared to current methods.Materials and Methods:Using current methods and the NAVIFY Tumor Board Solution, this study assessed the number of tasks and time to prepare tumor board cases. “…Moreover, it is undoubtedly a way of standardizing the presentation of cancer cases to be discussed in a multidisciplinary context. 67 Finally, Gallagher et al proposed the realization of a clinical database to improve patient care and research, describing all phases requested in constituting the Genitourinary Oncology Database, created by the University of North Carolina. This project needed attention by all members of the MTB, accounting for their personal experience and reviewing literature.…”

“…Implementation of TBs require the joint effort of multiple hospital staff members [6][7][8]. Studies demonstrated that effective TBs depend on multiple inputs (individuals, teams, environment, and patients) and processes (interactions, tests, results) [3,9].…”

“…Indeed, digital solutions have recently been implemented for TB meeting preparation and conduction [17][18][19]. The NAVIFY Tumor Board (NTB), is a cloudbased workflow that facilitates multidisciplinary meetings by integrating all relevant clinical data into a single source [5,6]. It assists with coordinating, scheduling, preparing, presenting and documenting decisions for TBs [5,6].…”

“…It is therefore not surprising to learn that Roche, a leading pharma company that successfully marketed poster child targeted therapies such as trastuzumab (Herceptin) and bevacizumab (Avastin), also commercializes an information technology platform called NAVIFY to "optimize decision-making for cancer treatment" by streamlining TB operations (Krupinski, Comas, and Gallego 2018), namely by bringing together "electronic health records, laboratory, pathology, and imaging information systems, genomics, and administrative datasets" (Versel 2018). Initially designed to support more traditional TB activities, most recently Roche added two new modulesa Mutation Profiler and a Therapy Matcher -"to support comprehensive genomic profiling in cancer."…”
