This paper presents extensive research on improving the power conversion efficiency of five-level multilevel inverters (MLIs) by utilizing a reduced switch topology. MLIs have received an abundance of focus because of their ability to generate high-quality output waveforms and have better harmonic outcomes than traditional two-level inverters. The high number of switches in MLIs, on the other hand, can result in increased power losses and lower overall efficiency. In this paper, a novel reduced switch topology for five-level MLIs, which is having five switches is proposed with the aim of minimizing power losses while preserving superior performance due to lesser number of switches. To achieve efficient power conversion, the proposed topology employs advanced pulse width modulation control strategies and optimized switching patterns. The simulation results show that the minimized switch topology improves the power conversion efficiency of the five-level MLI, resulting in lower losses and better overall system performance. The total harmonic distortion (THD) value of the output current has been reduced to 7.12% and the efficiency has been achieved to 96.92%. The findings of this investigation help to advance MLI technology, allowing for more efficient and reliable power conversion in a variety of applications such as renewable energy systems, electric vehicles, and industrial drives.

This paper presents a novel topology for photovoltaic microinverters that uses a buck-boost converter coupled with a discharge circuit. The system enables efficient conversion of electrical energy from the solar panel without requiring voltage filters or step-up transformers. For its control, an exponential action control strategy is used, as it allows effective tracking of the reference voltage. The stability of the overall control and inverter system is demonstrated and detailed using the Lyapunov method. The sizing of the components used is also detailed. The performance of this topology is evaluated under various load conditions, revealing low harmonic distortion (THD) in both current and voltage, with the best THD of 1% being obtained at a power factor of 0.8. This makes it a promising solution for photovoltaic energy conversion.

Because of serious challenges such as air pollution, global warming, and fossil fuels limitations, renewable energy sources such as photovoltaic (PV) systems are increasingly being integrated into the power systems around the world. In this article, a new gridtied system is proposed for PV applications which consists of an improved flyback DC-DC converter and a new switched-capacitor (SC) based multilevel inverter. Over previously introduced topologies in the same class, the proposed SC-based multilevel inverter has many advantages like reduced number of power switches and DC voltage sources, and also increased number of voltage levels produced at the output. In the proposed structure, one of the most important problems of the capacitive switching inverters, i.e. the occurrence of the impact currents during charging capacitors, is solved by using an inductor with a parallel diode in the capacitive charging current path. This increases the efficiency of the converter and reduces the charging current stress on the capacitors. To validate the performance of the proposed topology, comprehensive experiments and comparisons have been performed and presented. In the experiments, a current controller is used to control the amount of active and reactive power injected to the grid by the proposed grid-tied 17-levels inverter.INDEX TERMS switched capacitor, multilevel inverter, capacitor charging spike, Solar Energy, PV applications.
