A new silicon‐based root canal sealer (Roekoseal®‐Automix)

Abstract: This study evaluated the new silicon-based sealer 'Roekoseal-Automix' (RSA) with respect to sealing, bonding capabilities and biocompatibility with rat subcutaneous connective tissue. For the microleakage study, 36 single rooted teeth were instrumented and 30 of these obturated with either Grossman's sealer or RSA using lateral condensation technique (15 of each). Six teeth were not obturated and used as control group. For investigating bonding capability, 10 of the obturated roots with RSA and Grossman's seal… Show more

“…Like in the present study, silicone-based and epoxy resin-based sealers were shown to effectively seal the root canal (21)(22)(23). This may be related to the slight expansion during their setting reactions (24).…”

“…Roeko Seal (RSA; Roeko, Langenau, Germany) is a polydimethylsiloxane-based root canal sealer. Some studies have demonstrated that this material presents good sealing capacity (8,9) and satisfactory radiopacity (10). Epiphany (Pentron Clinical Technologies, Wallingford, CT) is a methacrylate-based resin root canal sealer.…”

“…7 Gencoglu et al investigated microleakage and found the best results in teeth in which silicone-based sealers were used. 19 Roekoseal and Gutta Flow have shown good adaptation to the root canal walls and better penetration into the dentinal tubules in the canal in an SEM study by Leski and Pawlicka. 20 Evangelos et al also concluded that root canals filled with Gutta Flow leaked significantly less than lateral condensation and system B technique at 12-months.…”
