Abstract:Abstract. To reduce springback, the coining process is often applied in sheet metal forming. However, the finite element method with a conventional shell element cannot formulate this process because of the plane stress condition. Therefore, in this study, a new shell element, which has extra nodes called pseudo-nodes, was developed to calculate the through-thickness stress. Using this element, a mechanics-based springback compensation system was constructed and tested.

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
