A new role of CCD meridian circles in modern astrometry

Abstract: The ground-based modem meridian circles are discussed from the perspectives of the tremendous achievements i n astrometry. A method of CCD star position determination by short strips isproposed. An observing programme of 12-14 stars around the extragalactic radiosources for the connection of the optical/radio reference frame using the Mykolayiv Axial meridian circle (AMC) and Danish-Chinese meridian telescope (DCMT) is described.
