Abstract:Mites in the cohort Gamasina of Mesostigmata are freeliving soildwelling predators. These mites are rel atively abundant in soil with over five thousand species recorded . The group is charac terized by having a bilateral extension of tracheal open ing, stigmata in association with the peritreme which may have plastron function in some genera and allows long submergence (Koehler, 1999).
