A new predictive indicator by arthrography for future acetabular growth following conservative treatment of developmental dysplasia of the hip

Abstract: The aim of this study was to find a new predictive indicator for acetabular growth of developmental dysplasia of the hip. Seventy-three hips that were diagnosed with developmental dysplasia of the hip and treated by conservative reduction were included in our study. In 30 hips with center-edge angle ≤ 10° at age 4, the center-edge of the acetabular limbus angle (CEALA) in the arthrogram was measured. On the basis of the results, CEALA was significantly smaller in the secondary acetabular dysplasia group than i… Show more

“…Our results showed comparable findings. Additionally, other parameters, such as intra-operative-arthrogram-determined femoral head coverage and centre-edge of acetabular limbus angle in the arthrogram at 4 years of age were also used by some researchers [9,20].…”

“…And 4 of them were not available for full text, 17 studies did not match the subject, and 9 studies could not extract the 2 × 2 contingency table. Finally, 9 studies were included for qualitative synthesis ( 18 , 27 34 ) and 6 studies for quantitative synthesis ( 18 , 28 , 29 , 31 , 33 , 34 ). The search process and results are shown in Figure 2 .…”

“…The information from the 6 quantitatively synthesized studies is shown in Table 2 . Among them, there were 4 studies in the CAI group ( 18 , 28 , 31 , 34 ) and 4 studies in the CCE group ( 18 , 28 , 29 , 33 ).…”

“…Previous studies have indicated a strong interdependence between the development of the hip joint and the interaction between the acetabulum and the femoral head ( 3 ). Existing research has predominantly focused on primary femoral head abnormalities leading to acetabular dysplasia, with a limited number of studies exploring the influence of acetabular morphology on femoral head development ( 4 , 5 ).MRI offers the advantage of clear visualization of soft tissues, cartilage, boney structures, and plays a crucial role in the assessment of DDH before and after treatment ( 22 , 23 , 24 ). This study aims to evaluate the correlation between acetabular and femoral head morphology in children aged 0–3 years with DDH using MRI.”…”
