A new perspective on the ICT Development Index

Abstract: Information and Communication Technology (ICT) represents an important structural part of modern society; this is why countries strive for constant progress in ICT and why it draws such significant attention. Bearing this in mind, the main goal of this paper is to present an I-distance methodology that holds a new perspective on the measurement of information development, to compare it to the ICT development index (IDI), and to point out improvements that such methodology provides. IDI combines 11 indicators r… Show more

“…s i is the standard deviation of x i , and r ji.12...j-1 is the partial correlation coefficient for x i and x j , (j < i). The I-distance is calculated through the following steps (Ivanovic 1973;Mihailovic et al 2009;Dobrota et al 2012): -Calculate the value of the discriminate effect of attribute x 1 , (the most significant indicator); -Add the value of the discriminate effect of x 2 which is not covered by x 1 ; -Add the value of the discriminate effect of x 3 which is not covered by x 1 and x 2 ; -Repeat the procedure for all indicators. The squared I-distance, defined by (2), is used in order to eliminate the negative values of partial correlation coefficients: …”

“…This is usually the entity with the minimal rate for each indicator or a fictive entity with minimal, maximal or average values for each variable. In this analysis, object with minimum values for each variable was set as a referent [47,49].…”

“…In view of this, Ponomariov and Toivanen (2014), recommends that emerging economies shed off the tag of 'imitators' to 'innovators' by building strong domestic knowledge capacities to spur innovative activities. In the advancement of technology, the socio-economic development of countries is enhanced with innovation and availability of resources (Milenkovic et al, 2014;Dobrota et al, 2012;Confraria and Godinho, 2015). This paper uses an exploratory trend analysis to unravel interestingness measures across lower middle income countries in the 6 continents of the world as far as research in science-based disciplines is concerned from year 2000 to 2012.…”
