A new pathological classification of intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma according to protein expression of SSTR2 and Bcl2

Abstract: Background No universal classification method for intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (IHCC) has been reported based on the embryological origin of biliary epithelial cells. The aim of this study was to classify IHCC according to protein expression levels of somatostatin receptor 2 (SSTR2) and b-cell leukemia/lymphoma 2 (Bcl2) and to elucidate the clinicopathological features of each group. Methods Fifty-two IHCC patients who underwent hepatic resectio… Show more

“…To date, BCL2 has not been shown to play a prominent role in CCA, and little is known about PDGFRB in this context. Initial evidence has been generated thus far, as BCL2‐high iCCAs have been associated with better prognosis, lower pT category and lower frequency of periductal infiltration 73 . In vivo experiments utilizing the experimental inhibition of PDGFRB via imatinib resulted in reduced tumour growth and increased apoptosis in a rat model of CCA 74 .…”

“…The expression of CK-19 in our patient indicated abnormal proliferation of bile ducts. iCCA is an adenocarcinoma arising from the intrahepatic bile ducts [ 16 ]. Loss of p53 expression implied malignant transformation.…”

“…FAP (dilution 1:250, ab207178; Abcam PLC, Cambridge, UK), SMA (dilution 1:100, ab7818; Abcam PLC), and 5-LO (dilution 1:300, ab169755; Abcam PLC) were used as the primary antibodies. The immunohistochemistry procedures were performed as previously reported [ 18 ]. Briefly, specimens were fixed in 10% formalin, embedded in paraffin, and sliced into 5 μm-thick serial sections.…”
