A new multiple integral model for water shortage risk assessment and its application in Beijing, China

Abstract: In terms of drought years, the assessment of water shortage risk is a significant precondition for taking effective measures to reduce the potential losses. This paper proposes a new multiple integral model for evaluating the risk of water shortage. First, the probability density function for water shortage was simulated. Second, a nonlinear function between vulnerability and its indicators was developed based on projection pursuit. Third, a function of consequence was proposed from the perspective of water-us… Show more

“…Nevertheless, the societal component is often included in a manner that is broad enough and goes sufficiently beyond technicalities to allow a SES analysis. Geographically, water resources vulnerability assessments have had either national (Chang et al, ), subnational (Qian et al, ; Wan et al, ), or predominantly, a regional focus (Babel & Wahid, ; Cai et al, ; Huang et al, ; Kattelus et al, ; Pascual et al, ; Varis & Kummu, ). Globally, only one freshwater vulnerability analysis has been conducted thus far (Padowski et al, ).…”

“…As for risk, many scholars have provided different definitions and interpretations according to the characteristics of different disciplines [8][9][10]. A widely accepted view is that the risk is usually understood as a combination of the probability level of a threat activation and the level of its effects [11,12]. The main phase of risk response consists of dealing with risk and risk monitoring.…”

“…At present, many countries in the world are facing serious water shortage, which has many adverse effects on human life and economic activities (Abedin et al 2019;Thao et al 2019;Yang et al 2015;Alameddine et al 2017). It is of great importance to predict or assess the water shortage risk so as to take some effective measures to reduce risk and its losses (Qian et al 2016;Chen and Li 2016).…”
