This paper proposes a unified power flow controller (UPFC)-based oscillation damping controller for use with a permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG)-based offshore wave farm (OWF). A novel intelligent damping controller (NIDC) was used to increase the stability of power control and improve the performance, where the proposed NIDC consists of the adaptive critic network, the Functional Link based Elman Neural Network (FLENN), and PID linear damping controller. The UPFC is used with the NIDC to OWF, which is connected to a single-machine infinite-bus to improve system stability. The PID damping controller is analysis of complex eigenvalues based on a theory of modal control. The node connecting weights of the FLENN and critic network are trained online. The proposed NIDC can be used to achieve better damping characteristics. The internal power fluctuations in the power system can also be effectively alleviated under variable wind power generation.

Nowadays, fossil combustibles are replaced by renewable energy sources. These renewable energies are nontoxic, dirt free, protected and reasonably cheap for the end-users. Renewable energy resources like bio-gas, geothermal, solar, tidal waves and wind have been found as the best alternative energy sources. Among these renewable energy sources, wind energy stands first and foremost for generating electricity.In order to have a constant utilization of wind energy maximum power from wind energy has to be extracted. In this paper, various control strategies prevalent to both the Doubly Fed Induction Generator (DFIG) and Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator (PMSG) have been analyzed. In addition, control topologies applicable to power electronics converter/inverter used in wind electric generators are discussed.

In order to investigate small wind turbines, a comprehensive knowledge of mechanical and electrical parameters is required. Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator (PMSG) is one of the kinds which are widely used for variable speed and direct driven wind power generating. In order to predict the amount of power that can be extracted by the wind turbine in a concerned area the knowledge of wind speed pattern for that particular location is required. In this paper a case study is selected to study the wind pattern and investigate the performance of the PMSG based wind power generation system for fixed speed and variable speed conditions. Wind power generation system simulated using MATLAB / Simulink consisting of wind turbine, PMSG, diode rectifier, Maximum Power Point tracking (MPPT) controlled boost converter, and DC load is considered. The Hill Climbing Search (HCS) algorithm is implemented using Fuzzy Logic Controller (FLC) for MPPT. The effectiveness of PMSG based wind power generation in the case study is investigated with the environmental conditions recorded at BITS-Pilani, Hyderabad campus, Telangana, India.
