This work proposes a new simplified five-parameter estimation method for a single-diode model of photovoltaic panels. The method, based on an iterative algorithm, is able to estimate the parameter of the electrical single-diode model from the panel’s datasheet. Two iterative steps are used to estimate the five parameters starting from data provided by the manufacturer (nameplate values or I–V curves). The first step permits finding the optimal value of the diode ideality factor A, and the second step allows the calculation of the Rp value to improve the accuracy. A model that takes into account variations in temperature and solar irradiance has been used to validate the behavior of the output parameters. Compared to other estimation work, the proposed method shows the best result in the standard test condition (STC) and with a variable solar irradiance. Indeed, the optimization of the A, Rs, and Rp parameters allows guaranteeing the minimum error between I–V curves obtained from method and datasheet.

The real implementation of the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) controllers for the photovoltaic (PV) systems is still a big challenge for researchers working in this field. Often, they use simulation tools to assess the performance of their MPPT algorithms before actual implementation. In this context, this paper aims to propose a trusted simulation of a PV system designed under Proteus software. The proposed PV simulator can be used to verify and evaluate the performance of MPPT algorithms with a closer approximation to the real implementation. The main advantage of this model that it contains a real microcontroller, as can be found in reality, so that same code for the MPPT algorithm used in the simulation will be used in real implementation. In contrast, when using (Powersim Software) PSIM or Matlab/Simulink, the code of the algorithm must be rewritten once the real experiment begins, because these tools don't provide a microcontroller or an electronic board in which our algorithm can be implemented and tested in the same way as the real experiment. After this section, a modified Hill-Climbing (HC) algorithm is introduced. The proposed algorithm can avoid the drift problem posed by conventional HC under a fast variation in insolation. The simulation results show that this method presents good performance in terms of efficiency (99.21%) and response time (10 ms), which improved by 1.2% and 70 ms respectively compared to the conventional HC algorithm.

To evaluate the performance of a photovoltaic panel, several parameters must be extracted from the photovoltaic. These parameters are very important for the evaluation, monitoring and optimization of photovoltaic. Among the methods developed to extract photovoltaic parameters from current-voltage (I-V) characteristic curve, metaheuristic algorithms are the most used nowadays. A new metaheuristic algorithm namely enhanced vibrating particles system algorithm is presented here to extract the best values of parameters of a photovoltaic cell. Five recent algorithms (grey wolf optimization (GWO), moth-flame optimization algorithm (MFOA), multi-verse optimizer (MVO), whale optimization algorithm (WAO), salp swarm-inspired algorithm (SSA)) are also implemented on the same computer. Enhanced vibrating particles system is inspired by the free vibration of the single degree of freedom systems with viscous damping. To extract the photovoltaic parameters using enhanced vibrating particles system algorithm, the problem can be set as an optimization problem with the objective to minimize the difference between measured and estimated current. Four case studies have been implemented here. The results and comparison with other methods exhibit high accuracy and validity of the proposed enhanced vibrating particles system algorithm to extract parameters of a photovoltaic cell and module.weather conditions change, analytical methods become ineffective [18].Numerical extraction techniques based on some algorithm fit the points on the PV characteristic curve. Compared to the analytical method, an accurate result can be attained since the algorithm tries to consider all points on the characteristic curve [19]. In the literature, the Newton-Raphson method is the most used [19] [20] [21]; In [22], a numerical method is proposed for modeling and the simulation of PV.
