The Hilbert-Huang transform (HHT) can retain intrinsic signal characteristics after noise reduction but still leaves a slightly noisy signal, and the wavelet packet transform (WPT) denoising algorithm eliminates noise efficiently but causes distortion of the original signal. To overcome these issues, this paper proposes to combine these two algorithms linearly to maximize the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and increase the adaptive optimal solution for the three main steps involved in the WPT. The proposed algorithm is tested on voice signals with different background noise intensities and different noise functions in order to test the robustness of the new Hilbert-Huang transform triple adaptable wavelet packet transform (HHT-TAWPT) algorithm. The results prove that the proposed algorithm effectively denoises the signal while keeping the original signal intact and this was indicated by the segmental SNR and frequency spectrograms when compared to the individual HHT and WPT algorithms.

A universal technique for transmitting data over voice (DoV) links that can be applied to various cellular networks is proposed. In the scheme, a generic modulation model is established based on waveform symbol mapping, where the data to be transmitted are mapped into finite waveform symbols of a codebook generated offline and demodulated with soft decision results at the receiving end. To make the proposed scheme applicable to various kinds of cellular networks, first sinusoidal signals are selected to synthesise waveform symbols due to their stable transmission characteristics over various voice channels. Then, an analytical method based on Surface Packing is proposed to optimise modulation codebooks. Finally, the target demodulation codebook is obtained through learning from the modulation codebook online. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme performs well over voice channels with different vocoders and has low symbol error rate on various vocoders. Compared with previous schemes designed for some specific vocoders in global system for mobile communication (GSM), the proposed scheme can extend the application scope of DoV to cross‐network scenarios consisting of GSM, universal mobile telecommunications system (UMTS) and long‐term evolution (LTE).

In this work, a new solution for online and accurate biomedical data transmission is presented. For this purpose, a global system for mobile (GSM) communication voice channel is, for the first time, used as a communication link between the patient and healthcare provider. Biomedical signals are converted into speech-like signals before being transferred over a GSM voice channel. On the receiver side, speech-like symbols are stored in a symbols bank, and constructed using random stochastic signals. On the receiver end, the index of the symbol with the most similarity to the received signal is selected as the identified sample. This method enables us to communicate with an accuracy of 99.8 % at a transfer rate of 110 samples per second and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of 10. By utilizing a GSM voice channel, any voice channel, such as a cell phone, can be used for data transmission. The transmitted signal is encoded; therefore, the connection is secured. GSM technology has benefits such as availability, reliability, and robustness. Additionally, GSM can be used as a backup or service for transmitting vital physiological signals in emergency situations (e.g. in an ambulance). This technology can also be used to transmit other physiological signals as well as nonphysiological generic data.
