A New Method of Determining Small Osmotic Pressures. II. Measurements and Results.

Februar 1957) ZUSAMMENFASSUNG:Es wird eine Methode angegeben, die es gestattet, aus der experimentell ermittelten Einstellgeschwindigkeit osmotischer Drucke den Wert fiir den osmotischen Druck im Gleichgewicht zu berechnen. Vergleichsmessungen mit der statischen Methode ergaben, daB sich aus der Einstellgeschwindigkeit die Steighohen auf + 5 .[cm], bezogen auf die statischen Werte, reproduzieren lassen. SUMMARY:A method is described to calculate the osmotic pressure in equilibrium from the changing speed of the menisci in osmometric capillaries. By comparing the results of this method with those of the static method, a reproducibility of k 5.10-s [cm] will be demonstrated.

ZUSAMMENFASSUNG:Der EiduI3 der Membran auf osmotische Messungen wird anhand der Ergebnisse fcemder und eigener Arbeiten besprochen. Im einzelnen wird auf die Wirkmg von Membranart, Durchliissigkeit fiir Losungsmittel und Polymere, STAVERMAN-Effekt, MembranAsymmetrie, Sorptions-Effekten, mechanischer, thermischer und chemischer Stabilitkt sowie verschiedenen Trivialfehlern eingegangen. SUMMARY:The intluence of membranes upon the measurement of osmotic pressure is reviewed according to the experimental results of other authors and own ones. In particular, the influences of membrane species, sorption effects, membrane awymmetries, mechanical, thermal and chemical stabilities, different trivial errors, permeation of solvents and polymers and the STAVERMAN effect are discussed critically.
