A new method for teaching microprocessors course using emulation

Abstract: Microprocessors course is a challenging course for both students and instructors. The challenge arises by the nature of this course which is a combination of assembly language and hardware interface. The assembly language develops the students' ability to program in a low level programming language utilizing the instruction set of the 8086 processor, understanding the addressing modes (pointer concept), and exploring the nature of different instructions along with their execution times, dependences, implicit a… Show more

“…Cognitive behaviors can be acquired to students at low cost with the help of interfaces developed. It is known that artificial environmental conditions can be created with the use of computer-based emulators, psychomotor behaviors can be gained in addition to cognitive behaviors, and they offer an economical and effective solution in transferring the determined goals to the student [32,33,44]. Emulators are educational equipment that includes software as well as hardware components.…”

“…Education technology is an enormous area of interest for researchers and developers with a lot of successful implementations being produced and adopted regarding to all the elements related to education field . Actually, using new technologies in the teaching process provides a lot of benefits including saving time, having faster and more accurate evaluation tools, creating new learning environments full of visual aids like animated media, high quality pictures, three dimensional (3D) models, and interactive way of learning to attract students to learn and provide better outcomes .…”
