“…Generally, the hydraulic conductivity of a jointed rock mass and its distribution characteristics are influenced by the geometric characteristics of the joints and geological characteristics such as the discontinuity, weathering, geologic structure, lithology, and depth (Snow 1968; Shmonov et al 2003; Stober and Bucher 2007; Jiang et al 2010; Zhang 2013; Achtziger‐Zupančič et al 2017b; Piscopo et al 2018; Chen et al 2018). Some studies have shown that drilling energy and drilling data can accurately reflect the comprehensive characteristics of rock masses in the scanline direction (He et al 2019a, 2020a). The proposed models (prediction model and size effect model), involving the variable (drilling energy) referring to the drilling data, are also likely to reflect the effect of characteristics of the rock mass and the geometric parameters of the fractures on the hydraulic conductivity.…”

“…A drilling process monitoring apparatus (DPMA; He et al 2020a, 2020c; Figure 2) is applied to measure the drilling energy for the fracture frequency determination of jointed rock masses (He et al 2019a). This approach can also be used to obtain the mechanical parameters of intact and jointed rock masses (He et al 2019a, 2019b, 2020b).…”
