A New Meroterpene, A New Benzofuran Derivative and Other Constituents from Cultures of the Marine Sponge-Associated Fungus Acremonium persicinum KUFA 1007 and Their Anticholinesterase Activities

Abstract: Previously unreported meroterpene, acremine S (1), and benzopyran derivative, acremine T (2), were isolated, together with lumichrome (3), ergosterol (4) and ergosterol 5,8-endoperoxide, from cultures of the marine sponge-associated fungus Acremonium persicinum KUF1007. The structure of the previously unreported compounds was established based on an extensive analysis of 1D and 2D NMR spectra as well as HRMS data. The absolute configurations of the stereogenic centers of 1 were established, unambiguously, base… Show more

“…Acremine S (47) was isolated from the sponge Mycale sp. derived fungus A. persicinum KUFA 1007 and showed inhibitory activity against butyrylcholine esterase, which was three folds higher than that of galantamine [26]. Hexahydroacremonintriol (48), along with an analogue, acremonin A glucoside, were obtained from a tropical sinkhole derived from A. masseei CICY026.…”

Compound 357 has antibacterial activity against S. aureus and B. subtilis (MIC = 25 to 100 µg/ml) and 339 has antioxidative, anti-Aβ fibrillization, and neuroprotective activities (Alves et al, 2019;Elissawy et al, 2017;Gu et al, 2018b;Lei et al, 2017).…”

“…One of the oldest metazoan animals is sponges ( Phylum porifera ) providing classic examples of microbial macro-faunal partnerships [ 90 ]. Generally, for great quantity of fungal biomass in sponge tissues, microbes can contribute over 40–70% of the sponge mass [ 30 , 91 ].…”
