“…Our study suggests that to reduce the recurrence rate, it is necessary to rinse planting beds repeatedly with antifungal drugs during the surgery, and all ulcer lesions should be removed completely. Conservative treatment of fungal keratitis often disappoints because of limited tissue penetration, a narrow antimicrobial spectrum, and toxicity of the currently available antifungal agents (25,26). Furthermore, early diagnosis is difficult.…”

“…Regardless of the drug choice, successful therapy requires prolonged frequent drug administration and therefore adherence of patients to treatment is also an important factor affecting the outcome of treatment. In addition, liposomal preparation of anti-fungal drugs are also under trail and has demonstrated some efficacy in rabbit models [1,57]. Furthermore [156] compared the efficacy of topical clotrimazole-β-cyclodextrin (CBC), a comparatively new anti-fungal compared to amphotericin B and concluded that CBC reduces the period of treatment on average by a duration of 1 week.…”

“…Some drugs act extracellularly and some others act intracellularly. A paradox for the latter type of drugs is that (1) lipophilic drugs can easily penetrate the plasma membrane but they have poor solubility in the blood stream, and (2) hydrophilic drugs have good solubility in the blood stream but they can not easily penetrate the plasma membrane to reach their intracellular acting sites. Both situations would prohibit these drugs to exert satisfactory curative effects.…”

“…Drug delivery system may solve this problem. Liposomes have been used for delivering drugs [1,2], but some problems exist [3,4].…”
