A New Instrument for Measuring Dietary Knowledge in Patients With Diabetes: Psychometric Testing of the CoNOCidiet‐Diabetes

Abstract: PURPOSETo determine the psychometric properties of the CoNOCidiet‐Diabetes, a new instrument based on nursing outcome “Knowledge: prescribed diet.”METHODSMethodological design. The participant were 359 patients diagnosed with diabetes visiting 27 primary healthcare centers in Spain. Reliability (internal consistency and test‐retest), validity (convergent criterion validity, concurrent content validity and known‐groups validity), and sensitivity to change was tested.FINDINGSCoNOCidiet‐Diabetes has shown evidenc… Show more

“…The Spearman-Brown correlation coefficient showed a strong positive correlation (0.91) between the CEECCA scores and the NOC indicator assessment scores for the whole sample. A study on the psychometric properties of an instrument (CoNOCidietDiabetes) [25], whose design and validation used the NOC classification, also obtained better levels of correlation between the total scores of the two instruments (r s = 0.72; p-value = 0.001) than between the individual correlations for each NOC indicator, where 41% of correlations were rated as weak and only 9.1% were rated as moderate. Other studies on the design and validation of instruments based on the NOC indicators obtained values similar to those obtained in this study when comparing the results for the whole sample using conceptually similar instruments as a reference.…”

“…In our opinion, the time constraints and operational limitations of the study, together with the difficulty in recruiting participants with this clinical and neuropsychological profile, have prevented a larger sample size from being recruited. Other nursing assessment instruments based on the NANDA-I and NOC classifications have been validated using larger sample sizes [24,25,42]. However, sample sizes are notably smaller in several validation studies of screening-type instruments for the diagnosis of aphasia [30][31][32][33][36][37][38].…”

“…The NOC has numerous applications in the field of care research (Swanson, 2020). A number of outcome criteria, belonging to the classes mentioned above, have provided the basis for the construction of tools for measuring knowledge in health care (Romero et al, 2021;Paloma-Castro et al, 2017).…”

“…Among the lines of research carried out on the basis of this trend, the development and validation of instruments is found with the use of NOC outcome indicators. In fact, among the scales that exist based on NOC, the highlighted are INICIARE [20] INTEGRARE [21], Knowledge: Pain Management [22], CoNOCidiet [23,24] with wide use and scienti c evidence.…”
