A New Growth Model of Fault Attributes in a Strike‐Slip Fault System in the Tarim Basin

Abstract: Fault attributes generally display a consistent power-law-scaling relationship. Based on new 3D seismic data, however, we found some exceptional fault attribute relationships of lengths (L)-throw (T) (vertical component of displacement), overlap zone length (Lo)-width (Wo) from a strike-slip fault system of the Ordovician carbonates in the Tarim Basin. The L-T relationship shows two linear segments with breakup at ~40 km in fault length. This presents an exceptional throw increase in the second stage, which is… Show more

“…NNE-and NNW-trending conjugate-slip faults have developed in the Tabei Uplift that cut each other like a checkerboard lattice, north to the Luntai Fault and south to the Shunbei No.1 Fault (Lv et al, 2017;Zhang et al, 2020). Combined with previous studies and seismic profile analysis, NNE-and NNW-trending conjugate-slip faults dominate the Tuoputai region.…”

“…Currently, the most mature methods for studying the characteristics of fault activity are the paleo-drop method and the growth index method [40][41][42] . The balanced cross-section and structural physical simulation methods are frequently utilized to investigate tectonic evolution and genetic mechanism [43][44][45][46] .…”

“…The Tazhong Uplift mainly underwent mixed accumulation of high-over mature cracking gas and early reservoirs. The NE-trending strike slip fault was the main transportation system (Zhang et al, 2020), particularly affecting the migration and distribution of the late cracking gas. Furthermore, the NEtrending strike slip fault connected the hydrocarbon sources and reservoirs of the Lower Ordovician-Cambrian dolomite and granular beach, thereby constructing another favorable deep exploration field around the platform margin.…”
