A new genus and three new species of mangrove slugs from the Indo-West Pacific (Mollusca: Gastropoda: Euthyneura: Onchidiidae)

Abstract: Mangroves of the Indo-West Pacific have remained poorly explored, so even the diversity of the onchidiid slugs, which are some of the most abundant animals in mangroves of the Indo-West Pacific, is not well known. Thanks to several years spent exploring mangroves in the Indo-West Pacific (more than 260 stations), especially in South-East Asia, the diversity of mangrove gastropods can now be addressed through revisions following an integrative taxonomy approach (nomenclature, field observations, comparative ana… Show more

“…This first molecular analysis of the Onchidiidae including all available sequences and covering 11 genera, provide good evidence for the monophyly of Peronia and nearly all other onchidiid genera. Platev-index and Onchidium are not monophyletic, thus supporting former analyses, based on smaller data sets without the five recently described genera Wallaconchis, Alionchis, Paromoionchis, Melayonchis and Marmaronchis (Dayrat et al , 2018(Dayrat et al , 2019Goulding et al 2018a;Goulding et al 2018b). Species delimitation tests clearly show that P. persiae sp.…”

“…Sequences were edited using BioEdit (ver.7.2.6.1) (Hall 1999) and aligned using MAFFT (Katoh et al 2002) in Geneious v7.1.9 (Kearse et al 2012). Sequences of other species from all available genera of the family Onchidiidae (446 sequences) and outgroup (three sequences) were downloaded from Gen-Bank, from Wang et al (2009), Chen et al (2011), Dayrat et al (2011Dayrat et al ( , 2014Dayrat et al ( , 2016Dayrat et al ( , 2018Dayrat et al ( , 2019, ; Cumming et al (2014), Goulding et al (2018aGoulding et al ( , 2018bGoulding et al ( , 2018c and Layton et al (2014) (Table 2). All sequences were included in the phylogenetic analysis to evaluate the affiliation and monophyly of Peronia for subsequent analyses.…”

“…All DNA sequences for the eleven outgroups are from our previous studies (Dayrat et al 2016(Dayrat et al , 2018(Dayrat et al , 2019aGoulding et al 2018a, b, c), with the exception of the nuclear sequences for Laspionchis boucheti, which are new (Table 2). Most Peronia mitochondrial and nuclear sequences in our molecular data set are new (Table 2).…”

“…All the available types of all onchidiid species were re-examined in the context of our revision of the whole family (Dayrat 2009;Dayrat et al 2016Dayrat et al , 2018Dayrat et al , 2019a; Goulding et al 2018a, b, c), which served as a basis to establish a complete list of all the species names available in the genus Peronia. For the sake of clarity, important features (especially intestinal loops) of the types of Peronia nominal species are illustrated here.…”
