A new furanosteroid from Talaromyces sp. lgt-4, a fungal endophyte isolated from Tripterygium wilfordii

Abstract: Wortmannolol (1), a new furanosteroid, along with five known compounds, wortmannolone (2), ergosterol (3), p-hydroxyphenyl ethanol (4), trans-6-dodecene (5), (2Z, 4E) -5-(8-hydroxy-1,5-dimethyl-3-oxo-6-oxabicyclo [3.2.1] octan-8-yl) -3-methylpenta-2,4-dienoic acid (6) were isolated from a fungal endophyte Talaromyces sp. lgt-4. Their structures were elucidated by IR, MS, 1D and 2D NMR spectra. Compound 1 show weak monoamine oxidase inhibitory activity.

“…The secondary metabolites of this genus have shown great potential in their chemical and bioactive diversity. Terpenoids, alkaloids, and polyketides with multiple bioactivities (including antibiotic, cytotoxic, and anti-HBV activity) have been reported as metabolites from Talaromyces (Hayashi et al, 2012;Kumar et al, 2013;Wu et al, 2015;Zhai et al, 2015;Fu et al, 2016;Guo et al, 2016;Xie et al, 2016;Zhao et al, 2016Zhao et al, , 2019Zhi et al, 2016;Cai et al, 2017;Küppers et al, 2017;Chen et al, 2018;Wang et al, 2018), with another review paper published in 2020 (Lan and Wu, 2020). “…As part of our ongoing research toward the discovery of secondary metabolites from marine-derived fungi [3,4,5,6,7,8], an endophytic fungal strain, Talaromyces islandicus EN-501, was selected for chemical investigation. Recently, several new natural products were isolated from plant-derived endophytic species of the genus Talaromyces [9,10,11]. The fungal strain used in the present work was isolated from the inner tissue of the fresh collected marine red alga Laurencia okamurai .…”
