“…Ophiostoma huntii has been known to occur mainly on pine and spruce trees and is associated with several different bark beetles, including Dendroctonus ponderosae Hopk., Ips pini Say, Hylastes ater Payk. and Tomicus piniperda (Robinson-Jeffrey & Grinchenko, 1964 ;Davidson & Robinson-Jeffrey, 1965 ;Harrington, 1988 ;Wingfield & Gibbs, 1991). Ophiostoma europhioides is also known to occur on pine and spruce, as well as douglas-fir, and has been associated with bark beetles in the genera Dryocoetus Eich., Pityogenes Bed.…”

“…Ophiostoma huntii appears to be a relatively well-defined species associated with pine-root and stem infesting insects, both in North America and Europe (Robinson-Jeffrey & Grinchenko, 1964 ;Davidson & Robinson-Jeffrey, 1965 ;Wingfield & Gibbs, 1991). Isolates from Australia and New Zealand have evidently been introduced into these countries with the root-infesting bark beetle Hylastes ater, which is known to be associated with other ophiostomatoid species on pine in Europe (Wingfield & Gibbs, 1991).…”

“…A are shorter than those of G. robustum and other Leptographium species. In addi-tion G. robustum forms a teleomorph in culture Wingfield 2001, Robinson-Jeffrey andGrinchenko 1964), but Leptographium sp. A formed no perithecia in culture, even when isolates were paired.…”

“…Mature ascospores of these fungi collect in a mucilaginous mass or cirrus at the ostiole or at other openings of mature perithecia (Leach, 1940;Bakshi, 1951;Hunt, 1956;Griffin, 1968). Ascospores of C. huntii Robinson (Robinson-Jeffrey and Grinchenko, 1964) and C. coerulescens (Munch) Bakshi (Bakshi, 1951) were reported as not dispersing when discharged in water. We observed that ascospore masses of several additional species of Ceratocystis and of Europhium clavigerum Robinson & Davidson (Robinson-Jeffrey and Davidson, 1968) did not disperse in water or lactophenol.…”
