A New Family of Fast Sodium Ion Conductors: Na2M2TeO6 (M = Ni, Co, Zn, Mg)

Abstract: The four compounds Na 2 M 2 TeO 6 (M 2þ = Ni, Co, Zn, Mg) have been prepared by solid-state reactions in air at 600-820 °C and characterized by powder X-ray diffraction, redox titration, impedance, and polarization measurements on ceramic samples. All of them are superstructures of the well-known hexagonal layered P2-type with ordering of M and Te in octahedral brucite-like layers. They have similar parameters of the hexagonal cells: a = 5.20-5.28 Å, c = 11.14-11.31 Å, but different stacking sequences along c.… Show more

“…We should note that the external magnetic fields range in both cases (4.5 T for 7 Li and 7.01 T for 23 Na) corresponds to the developing of the spin-flop phase (compare with B SF which are about 5.5 T and 9.8 T for Li 3 Ni 2 SbO 6 and Na 3 Ni 2 SbO 6 as described above). The differences of the internal field distribution and magnitude at different magnetic fields are exemplified by the NMR spectrum of 7 Li (Fig.…”

“…34,[41][42][43] An optimized set of parameters for Na 2 M 2 TeO 6 -family of solids, where M=Ni, Co, Zn, or Mg, is reported by us recently. 32 Table 1 reproduces the parameters for Na 2 Ni 2 TeO 6 , which is subsequently employed in the present study. Note that plausible changes in interatomic potential with local Na + concentration is not incorporated due to unavailability of experimental data.…”

“…their oxidation states) and ionic radii are sufficiently different. 102,103 Contradictory results, in terms of the role the M cation disorder plays on Na + ion/vacancy disorder, have been obtained for Te-containing layered materials and for conventional Na x MO 2 compounds based on first row transition metals. On one hand, the formation of a Na + ion/vacancy ordered superstructure was found to be relatively independent on the degree of cation ordering in Na 2 M 2 TeO 6 (M = Ni, Co, Zn, Mg) type compounds.…”
