A new example of periodic mesoporous SiCO glasses with cubic symmetry stable at 1000.DEG.C

Abstract: Periodic Mesoporous Organosilicas (PMOs) have been used as precursors to produce porous Silicon Oxycarbide glasses after pyrolysis at 1000°C in inert atmosphere. Up to now only PMOs with cubic ordering could be successfully converted into an ordered mesoporous SiCO glass. In our work we prepared, under strong acidic media and using an inorganic salt, a PMO with cubic Fm3m phase starting from 1,2-bis(triethoxysilyl)ethane as organosilane and PluronicF127 as templating agent. The as-prepared PMO has been charac… Show more

“…Pauletti et al have synthesized an ordered mesoporous SiOC starting from periodic mesoporous organosilica (PMO) precursors. 8 In the latter case, the PMO network has been obtained via sol-gel reaction from bis-triethoxysilylethane in the presence of a surfactant. Meso/macroporous silicon oxycarbide glasses have also been reported from pyrolysis of porous hybrid silica xerogels 9-11 and aerogels.…”

“…This lack of accessibility could be due to incompletely removed surfactant (see 13 C NMR). However, in the precipitated sample in which F127 is also partially removed [10], a much higher S BET is observed. Another hypothesis can be proposed based on the observation of a denser layer around the particles on the TEM micrographs.…”

“…Mesoporous materials have regularly ordered mesopore arrangements, a narrow pore-size distribution, and a very high surface area. Various types of mesoporous materials, including films, 2)-3) fibers, particles, 4) and monoliths, 5) have been synthesized and have been used in a wide range of applications such as adsorption systems, sensors, catalyzers, separators, and drug-delivery systems.…”
