A new ‘event‐on‐demand’ synthesizer of rain attenuation time series at Ku‐, Ka‐ and Q/V‐bands

Abstract: SUMMARYTo develop and test real-time fade mitigation techniques control algorithms, propagation time series are needed. An alternative to using real data collected from propagation experiments is to generate typical fading time-series making use of climatological characteristics as well as geometrical and radio-electrical parameters of the link. The objective of this paper is to present a rain attenuation time-series synthesizer and able to generate events on demand. The model is based on an enhanced version o… Show more

“…The proposition in this work is to use the Lacoste-Carrié (L-C) "event-on-demand" model [6] for this purpose. This model relies on the same theoretical basis as E.M-B model but allows the user to command some characteristics of each isolated event to be synthesized: duration D, maximum attenuation A max and moment of maximum attenuation D peak .…”

“…Two of them are versions based on Maseng-Bakken (M-B) theory [2]: the first one is the original version of the M-B model whereas the other one is an enhanced version of it [3], [4]. The third channel model is a composition of a macroscopic (periods of rain and clear sky generated by 2-state Markov-chains [5]) and a microscopic model (rain attenuation events created by the Lacoste-Carrié "event-on-demand" model [6]). …”

“…Step 2: The offline pre-processing propagation module written in C must be run in order to generate the needed attenuation time series for the return link in Ka and EHF bands using the enhanced stochastic Maseng-Bakken model developed by Lacoste and Carrié (Lacoste, 2005;Castanet et al, 2008;Carrié et al;Lemorton et al, 2007). The module uses the Juzzle C data-driven engine.…”

“…Nevertheless, it must be kept in mind that this uniform ACM scheme over the whole area is also a consequence of a simplistic assumption concerning the channel propagation modelling, in which no spatial variability is taken into account. Only a temporal variability is modeled using Carrié's enhancement of Lacoste's CNES/ONERA rain fading time series stochastic generator based on Maseng-Bakken model (Lacoste, 2005;Castanet et al, 2008;Carrié et al;Lemorton et al, 2007).…”
