A new Erythrina alkaloid from Erythrina herbacea

Abstract: A new Erythrina alkaloid, 10-hydroxy-11-oxoerysotrine (1), has been isolated from the flowers of Erythrina herbacea together with five known compounds: erytharbine (2), 10,11-dioxoerysotrine (3), erythrartine (4), erysotramidine (5) and erysotrine-N-oxide (6). The structure of the new compound was elucidated on the basis of its spectral data, including 2-D NMR and mass (MS) spectra. The new compound is a rare C-10 oxygenated Erythrina alkaloid. The antioxidant activities of the isolated compounds 1-6 were eval… Show more

“…More recent work, based on 1 H-1 H COSY, NOESY and 1 H-13 C 2D spectra (e.g. HMQC and HMBC), [3][4][5][6][7][8][9] shows broad agreement with the generally accepted 13 C NMR patterns of the more extensively studied 1,2,7,8-didehydro 'dienoid' series.…”

“…) Three new alkaloids, 10,11-dioxo-erythrartine, 10,11-dioxoepierythratidine and 10,11-dioxo erythratidinone and a new pterocarpan 1-methoxyerythrabissin were isolated from the bark of E. subumbrans (Rukachaisirikul, et al, 2008). A new Erythrina alkaloid, 10-hydroxy-11-oxo-erysotrine has been isolated from the flowers of E. herbacea (Tanaka & Hattori, 2008). From the bark of E. crista-galli two new alkaloids, cristanines A and B were isolated ( Ozawa, et al, 2010) and from the seeds of E. velutina were isolated four new alkaloids, three of them were found to be novel sulfated erythrinane alkaloids (Ozawa, et al, 2011).…”

“…The most considerable group of biologicaly active compounds of mulungu are alkaloids (Ozawa et al 2009). The alkaloids have been found in 78 of 107 species in the genus Erythrina; mulungu is documented with 20 isoquinoline alkaloids (Tanaka et al, 2008;Parsons and Palframan, 2010). The alkaloids accumulated not only at the end of maturation in the seeds but also in young tissues.…”
