A new ductile moment-resisting connection for precast concrete frames in seismic regions: An experimental investigation

Abstract: A new ductile moment-resisting beam-column connection is developed for precast reinforced concrete (RC) frames in high seismic zones. The proposed connection provides good structural integrity in the connections and can reduce construction time by eliminating the need for formworks and welding, and minimizing cast-in-place concrete volume. A series of cyclic loading tests were carried out on six full-scale interior and exterior precast connections and two monolithic connections, all designed for use in high se… Show more

“…Because of such advantages the precast concrete construction is being adopted world-wide including India. In precast concrete construction, connections are the most critical elements of the structure, because in past major collapse of precast building took place because of connection failure (Parastesh et al 2014, Choi et al 2013, Joshi et al 2005. Therefore it is very important to study the performance of connection between beam and column under a progressive collapse scenario.…”

“…Many researchers have studied behavior of various types of precast beam column connections. Parastesh et al [1] developed new ductile moment resisting precast beam column connections. They have tested six full scale interior and exterior precast beam column connections under cyclic loading and compared their performance with monolithic connections.…”

“…These types of joints are well known because of minimum site work, such as welding and bolting. Khoo, Li, and Yip [9], Xue and Yang [10], Khaloo and Parastesh [11], and Parastesh, Hajirasouliha, and Ramezani [12] have studied this type of joint. Diaphragms are another member of precast concrete structures that are extensively used in transferring and carrying load.…”
