A New Diagnostic Algorithm for Multiple IGBTs Open Circuit Faults by the Phase Currents for Power Inverter in Electric Vehicles

Abstract: In order to simplify the application and improve diagnostic speed of the diagnostics, a novel method to diagnose multiple open circuit faults in insulated gate bipolar transistors (IGBTs) by three-phase currents for power inverter in electric vehicles is presented. The summation of currents with semi-period phase-difference is described in diagnostic variables with exploration of the current information in faulty condition. In contrast with plentiful existing methods which rely on the motor models and control … Show more

“…Combining R n (k) and S n (k), in total, 27 kinds of faults can be diagnosed. Consider that the current frequency in the drive system is varying according to the motor speed, the variable parameter moving average method is adopted to calculate the mean value adaptively [121].…”

“…However, wavelets are easily affected by closed-loop systems. In [28], a method of using half-period phase difference current is proposed to diagnose multi-circuit faults of three-phase motors. This method only needs to collect phase currents to diagnose the multi-circuit points accurately, which improves the independence of diagnosis.…”

“…In the torque-controlled motor drive system, the difference between the actual values and the referential values of current through the three phases were calculated by the sampled data acquired in a variable sliding observation window, which is utilize in single switch's open-circuit fault diagnosis in [21]. In addition to the diagnostic variable based on the three-phase stator current over an electrical cycle, the auxiliary diagnostic variable, which is based on the crosscomparison of the three-phase stator current, is presented and used to diagnose multiple open circuit faults in insulated gate bipolar transistors [22]. In short, more attention has been drawn to the diagnosis of multiple power switchers' opencircuit faults.…”
