A new design for Information Centric Networks

Abstract: Abstract-Information Centric Network (ICN) is a contentbased information dissemination approach that improves the content delivery and latency. We introduce a modified architecture for ICN which can reduce the traffic by combining multiple messages and facilitate the data distribution in the network. By observing the similarities between index coding and ICN architectures, we propose to combine these two techniques to arrive at a new architecture that enhances data delivery in networks beyond original ICN sche… Show more

“…In this paper, we assume the source node can access the receiver nodes through multihop communications. The new scheme, called Modified Index Coding (MIC) [9] technique, can be applied to different types of networks such as wireless multihop communication network, wired network or a hybrid network consisting of both wired and wireless channels. For example, in a corporate environment, we can have information transported in a wired medium while the last hop is a wireless access point with nodes connected to the infrastructure through a wireless modem.…”

“…Several solutions have been proposed. In some centralized schemes [6] [7], center routers are responsible for determining the optimal caching strategy and optimal content routing to provide independent blocks. In some distributed schemes [8] [9], the information about coded blocks having collected must be appended in the Interest packet to get independent block.…”

“…A recent development in this direction is to improve the accessibility of data content to users by storing the most popular data files in the local caches of small cell BSs, with the objective of reducing the peak traffic rates [5] - [8]. This is commonly referred to as "caching" and has attracted significant attention.…”
