A New Definition of Short-circuit Ratio for Multi-converter HVDC Systems

Abstract: -In this paper, a new definition of short-circuit ratio concept for multi-converter HVDC systems is proposed. Analysis results of voltage interaction between converters show that the reactive power-voltage characteristic of a converter has a dominant effect on voltage interaction level compared with its active power-voltage characteristic. Such a relation between converter reactive power and voltage interaction level supports taking the former into account in the definition of short-circuit ratio concept for m… Show more

“…The MIIF calculation method of the HMIDC considering DC control response characteristics is proposed [21]. Few studies focus on the MIIF of the HMIDC, though it is valuable for evaluating the voltage and power stability, the risk of LCC-HVDC commutation failure, and the interaction of harmonics [22][23][24]. In projects, VSC-HVDC can be equipped with voltage regulation control to enhance voltage stability, which affects the voltage interaction between the inverters.…”

“…The values of sensitivities under different control modes can be obtained by the mathematical expressions given in [11,12]. dQ cm /dU m is the sensitivity of reactive power generated by the shunt reactive power compensator at the converter bus k with respect to converter bus voltage.…”

“…The analysis results of reference [11] show that the interaction level is related to network parameters and operation states of AC system, and power-voltage characteristics of a converter which depend on the control modes employed by a HVDC link. Reference [12] analyzes the influence mechanism of control modes with respect to voltage interaction and suggest that power-voltage sensitivity of the inverter is one of the main influencing factors.…”
