A new contactless impedance sensor for void fraction measurement of gas–liquid two-phase flow

Abstract: With impedance elimination principle and phase sensitive demodulation (PSD) technique, this work aims to develop a new contactless impedance sensor, which is suitable for the void fraction measurement of gas–liquid two-phase flow. The impedance elimination principle is used to overcome the unfavorable influences of the coupling capacitances, i.e. the capacitive reactances of the coupling capacitances are eliminated by the inductive reactance of an introduced inductor. PSD technique is used to implement the imp… Show more

“…For this configuration, the fluid is measured in the axial direction of the pipeline. The sensor with tubular electrodes can obtain a large and stable signal, which helps the improvement of detection performance [ 6 , 9 ]. Through decades of sustained development, C 4 D sensors have been studied by many researchers and are mostly employed for detection in capillary electrophoresis (CE) and microchip electrophoresis (MCE) (the inner diameter of the pipe is always less than 0.5 mm) [ 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 10 ].…”

“…Thus, the unfavorable influence of the coupling capacitances C 1 and C 2 on the measurement results can be effectively overcome and the resolution of the CCD sensor can be improved. Meanwhile, our research results also indicate that the simulated inductor technique is an effective way to develop an inductor module . Therefore, the inductor module in this work is a simulated inductor.…”

“…Our research works have verified that the series resonance principle is an effective way to improve detection resolution of the CCD sensor . By introducing an inductor module into the detection unit, the capacitive reactance of the coupling capacitances C 1 and C 2 can be eliminated by the inductive reactance of an introduced inductor module.…”
