A new concept in construction of cable terminations for medium voltages

Abstract: This paper describes a new concept in construction of cable terminations for medium voltages. Layers with a high permittivity and embedded electrodes (EEs) were used. Three groups of configurations were examined. In the first group, the layer of high permittivity was placed partly over the cable insulation and partly over the cable screen. In the second group, the high permittivity layer (HPL) was placed partly over the cable insulation and partly under the semiconducting material, connecting with cable insula… Show more

“…There is a number of cable terminations developed in the last few years [8], but cable failures still happen, causing a great economic loss. For that reason any improvement in the cable termination construction is of interest.…”

“…In this way is reduced emission of strong electric field in environment. Nonlinear materials, i.e., materials whose resistivity vary with applied voltage, are among the most recent developments for stress-control systems (Pokryvailo et al, 2010;Nikolajevic et al, 1998;Dimitrijevic et al, 2011).…”

“…Geometric grading (Raicevic et al, 2011;Raicevic, 1999Raicevic, , 2008) can be implemented by adding a cone-shaped (stress cone) dielectric. Another solution is to add a shaped multi-dielectric layer (Raicevic et al, 2010;Pokryvailo et al, 2010;Nikolajevic et al, 1998) of insulation with a different permittivity than the surrounding region.…”

“…The cable accessories should operate safely same with cable body in a long terms, and has the same service life with the cable. High voltage cable connection head must cores, insulate well and the structure complies with the critical strip cut size in general [4][5][6].…”
