Problem statement: This study proffered solution to some identified data insecurity problems in software development by the use of Web-based learning system as a test bed and development of an hybrid crypto-biometric security system. Approach: A variant of data encryption algorithm tagged (XOR-RSA algorithm) is developed in order to encrypt the messages being sent between the learner and the facilitator. Results: A comparative analysis of performance of this algorithm was carried out using cryptographic algorithm metrics in order to establish its stronger performance above the existing algorithms. The result shows that the improved algorithm (XOR-RSA) performed better than prominent data encryption algorithms in the likes of RSA, SKIPJACK, DES1 and 3DES. Conclusion/Recommendations: This was eventually implemented in a web based learning system. The work provides a prototype for the development of secured Web-based learning infrastructure and its contextual framework, which foster indigenization of electronic learning technology which will adequately address the related challenges in the phenomenon of system security in terms of confidentiality and integrity of the system.

Problem statement: Nowadays, various types of data in web table can be easily extracted from the Internet, although not all of web tables are relevant to the users. As we may know, most web pages are in unstructured HTML format, making web table extraction process very time consuming and costly. HTML format only focuses on the presentation, not based on the database system. Therefore, users need a tool in dealing with that process. Approach: This research proposed an approach for implementing web table extraction and making a Mashup from HTML web pages using Xtractorz application. It is also discussed on how to collaborate and integrate a web table extraction process in the stage of building a Mashup, i.e., Data Retrieval, Data Source Modeling, Data Cleaning/ Filtering, Data Integration and Data Visualization. The main issue lies in stage of data modeling creation, in which Xtractorz must be able to automatically render Document Object Model (DOM) tree in accordance to HTML tag or code of the web page from which the table is extracted. To overcome that, the Xtractorz is equipped with algorithm and rules so it can enable to specifically analyze the HTML tags and to extract the data into a new table format. The algorithm is created by using recursive technique within a user-friendly GUI of Xtractorz. Results: The approach was evaluated by conducting experiment using Xtractorz and other similar applications, such as RoboMaker and Karma. The result of experiment showed that Xtractorz is more efficient in completing the experiment tasks, since Xtractorz has fewer steps to complete the whole tasks. Conclusion: Xtractorz can give a positive contribution in terms of algorithm technique and a new approach method to web table extraction process and making a Mashup, where the core algorithm can extracts web data tables using recursive technique while rendering the DOM tree model automatically.

Problem statement:Text summarization takes care of choosing the most significant portions of text and generates coherent summaries that express the main intent of the given document. This study aims to compare the performances of the three text summarization systems developed by the authors with some of the existing Summarization systems available. These three approaches to text summarization are based on semantic nets, fuzzy logic and evolutionary programming respectively. All the three represent approaches to achieve connectionism. Approach: First approach performs Part of Speech (POS) tagging, semantic and pragmatic analysis and cohesion. The second system under discussion was a new extraction based automated system for text summarization using a decision module that employs fuzzy concepts. Third system under consideration was based on a combination of evolutionary, fuzzy and connectionist techniques. Results: Semantic net approach performs better than the MS Word summarizer as far as the semantics of the original text was concerned. To compare our summaries with those of the well known MS Word, Intellexer and Copernic summarizers, we use DUC's human generated summaries as the bench-mark. The results were very encouraging. The second approach based on fuzzy logic results in an efficient system since fuzzy logic mimics decision making of humans. Third system showed promising results as far as precision and F-measure are concerned than all the other approaches. Conclusion: Our first approach used WordNet, a lexical database for English. Unlike other dictionaries, WordNet does not include information about etymology, pronunciation and the forms of irregular verbs and contains only limited information about usage. To overcome this limitation, we developed a new text summarizer based on fuzzy logic. As Text summarization application requires learning ability based on activation, we utilize ANN attribute through a connectionist model to achieve the best results.
