Townships in Southwest China are usually located in mountainous regions, which are abundant in natural and cultural landscape resources. There are additional requirements for the township’s sustainable development in these areas. However, insufficient infrastructures, due to limited resources, constrain the sustainable development of these townships. Sustainable contribution of infrastructure (SCOI) in this study is defined as the performance of infrastructure as a contribution to the coordinated development among economic, social, and environmental dimensions of township’s sustainable development. It is necessary to assess these infrastructures according to SCOI and provide choices for investment to maximize resource utilization. Therefore, an assessing model of SCOI with 26 general indicators was developed, which covers five most urgently needed infrastructures of these townships in Southwest China, including road transport, sewage treatment, waste disposal, water supply, and gas. In this model, quantitative and qualitative methods are combined to acquire different SCOI of each infrastructure. The result of the SCOI would be an important reference for infrastructure investment. A case study of Jiansheng Town, that is located in the Dadukou district of Chongqing, demonstrates the applicability of the model. It shows the assessing model of SCOI is efficient to identify the most valuable infrastructure that is appropriate for investment with the goal of township’s sustainable development. This study can provide insights for infrastructure investment and management in townships or areas.

The spatial interaction of using industrial land and the ecosystem is characterized by its complexity and land size. While some cases show a positive impact, others have a completely negative impact on the environment. Most importantly, on several occasions, these interactions do not have a direct consequence until after an extended period of time. Therefore, in this paper, we address the framework of driving force, pressure, state, impact and the response (DPSIR) of the environmental assessment systems for sustainable development. In this paper, we also demonstrate how the electric power production affects the ecosystems. Furthermore, based on our findings in the research paper, we suggest sustainable solutions that will limit the damage caused by these interactions.

This study proposes a new stochastic approach for optimizing diversion system design and its construction schedule by considering different hydrological and hydraulic uncertainties sources. For this purpose, a multi-objective optimization-simulation model was developed to evaluate the failure of a diversion system to flood. Two objective functions, the expected flood damage (EFD) and cost-benefit (CB) index of a diversion system, are optimized in this study using a non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm II (NSGA-II). The approach is tested for four different compositions of uncertainties (Base Case, Case1, Case2, and Case3) to estimate their impacts based on distance index (D) and the boxplot. Finally, finance constraints are evaluated based on the construction period of the project. The Karun-4 dam, located in Iran, is considered as the case study. The obtained results demonstrate that the hydrological uncertainty with D basecase case2 = 21.335 and IQR basecase = 2.1M has the highest effect on the Pareto optimal front and the hydraulic uncertainty of downstream cofferdam with D basecase case3 = 5.789 and IQR case2 = 1.8M has the lowest effect on the Pareto optimal front. The best value of the CB index is related to the base case (66.42%) using the pseudo weight factor. The study indicates that the total investment of the water diversion system is lower than the consultant's plan by 20.23%, 18.33%, 17.28%, and 18.81% when the different components of uncertainty are considered. An implementation period of 6-year and 11-year is the best option for no financial constraints and financial constraints, respectively. The stochastic simulation-optimization approach proposed in the present study provides decision-makers reliable insight into planning dam construction.
