A new class of organoplatinum-based DFNS for the production of cyclic carbonates from olefins and CO2

Abstract: We studied the potential application of an efficient, reusable, and easily recoverable catalyst of dendritic fibrous nanosilica (DFNS)-supported platinum(ii) complexes (DFNS/Pt(ii) NPs) to form cyclic carbonates in the presence of epoxides by converting carbon dioxide.

“…Thus, high temperatures and CO 2 pressures are also required here and significant amounts of energy are necessary as well as specific equipment. Numerous articles describe harsh conditions; high temperatures ranging from 80 to 100 °C and CO 2 pressures (up to 100 atm) were reported. The yields are fairly high in the majority of the cases but show a wide range from 11% to 97%.…”

“…3) Oxidation carboxylation of styrenes (a kind of olefins) with CO 2 in the presence of oxidants, as seen in Scheme 3 (Figure 5). Three types of catalysts with DMSNs as the supports have been constructed, being dual 1,4‐diazabicyclo[2.2.2]octane‐based ionic liquid (④ DABCO‐based DMSNs‐DIL), [ 89 ] a platinum complex (⑤ DMSNs‐Pt(II)), [ 90 ] and a magnetic Pd‐implanted Schiff base complex coupled with imidazolium‐based ionic liquid (⑥ FeNi 3 @DMSNs‐DIL/Pd(II)/Salen). [ 91 ] It should be mentioned that a magnetic core was introduced before the subsequent organic modifications for FeNi 3 @DMSNs.…”
