A new child-friendly 3D bimanual protocol to assess upper limb movement in children with unilateral cerebral palsy: Development and validation

Abstract: HAL is a multi-disciplinary open access archive for the deposit and dissemination of scientific research documents, whether they are published or not. The documents may come from teaching and research institutions in France or abroad, or from public or private research centers. L'archive ouverte pluridisciplinaire HAL, est destinée au dépôt et à la diffusion de documents scientifiques de niveau recherche, publiés ou non, émanant des établissements d'enseignement et de recherche français ou étrangers, des labor… Show more

“…The 31 studies used 3 different types of measurement systems: (1) 3DMA, including optoelectronic systems (Optotrack ® , VICON ® , Qualisis ® , MIE Medical Research ® ) [ 24 , 25 , 27 , 28 , 30 36 , 38 42 , 44 46 , 49 53 ] and electromagnetic systems (Polhemus ® ) [ 26 , 29 ]), (2) accelerometers (ActiGraph ® ) [ 23 , 26 ] and (3) other instruments (bespoke instrumented cube [ 43 ], Kinect device [ 48 ] or digitizer with two pens [ 47 ]) (Table 2 ). The 3DMA studies used models with 2 to 41 markers positioned on both ULs.…”

“…Motion capture systems based on optoelectronic devices (Vicon systems) (Oxford Metrics Group, UK) are considered to be the gold standard for a motion analysis. However, the analysis requires sending patients to a clinical laboratory and is most commonly used to assess kinematics and spatiotemporal variables during activities such as reaching and grasping [ 55 , 56 , 57 , 59 , 62 , 64 , 66 ]. Wearable inertial sensors also directly measure kinematic data of the human body and are an alternative able to be used both in the laboratory and in an open environment [ 61 , 63 , 67 ].…”

“…As can be seen from Table 2 , OptiTrack (Motion Analysis, Corvallis, OR, USA), ELITE2002 (BTS, Milan, Italy), and Vicon Mx optoelectronic devices (Oxford Metrics Group, UK) were used to record significant changes ( p < 0.05) regarding the ROM of abduction, external rotation, flexion, extension, supination, and other movements during the respective evaluations according to the applied protocol [ 51 , 55 , 56 , 57 , 58 , 59 , 62 , 64 ].…”
