A New Cd(II)-Based Coordination Polymer for Efficient Photocatalytic Removal of Organic Dyes

Juanjuan Zhao,
Zhuoyu Dang,
Mohd. Muddassir
et al.

Abstract: Coordination polymers (CPs) are a diverse class of multi-dimensional compounds that show promise as photocatalysts for degrading dyes in polluted water. Herein, a new 1D Cd(II)-based coordination polymer with the formula [Cd(bpyp)(nba)2] (1) (bpyp = 2,5-bis(pyrid-4-yl)pyridine and Hnba = 4-nitrobenzoic acid) is synthesized and characterized. In 1, the two carboxyl groups of two different nba− ligands show μ2-η1:η1 and μ1-η1:η1 coordination modes to connect the CdII centers and sit on either side of the chain a… Show more

“…Our research focuses on the exploration of under investigated polycarboxylic acid blocks for the design of new CPs. 12,13 Herein, we have chosen 5,5′-(ethene-1,2-diyl)diisophthalic acid (Scheme 1), namely (H 4 L), and explored its potential application in the hydrothermal generation of Co( ii )-based CPs. In order to select H 4 L as a principal block, the below characteristics have been considered: 14–16 (1) this carboxylic acid shows eight possible coordination sites (eight carboxylate oxygen donors), which can generate diverse coordination modes; (2) the H 4 L linker shows two aromatic rings that cannot rotate or twist to inhibit the generation of the interpenetration mode due to a rigid and full framework; and (3) the coordination chemistry of this building block is still unexplored.…”

“…They are a good choice as a carrier for the delivery of substances such as drugs, photosensitisers and contrast agents. They are also widely used in sensing, 3 catalysis, 4 magnetism, 5 and gas storage. 6 In addition, metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) have been tremendously used in cancer therapeutic applications.…”

“…22–27 MOFs have been extensively studied because of their remarkable properties like flexible framework, large effective external surface, controllable size distribution, and good biocompatibility. 28–32 Thus, some MOFs are biomedically favorable for drug delivery and cancer therapy. 33–35…”
