Abstract

A new case of amyloid elastosisdermoscopic findings and literature review Dear Editor, Amyloid elastosis (AE) is a rare form of cutaneous amyloidosis. We report a case of AE in a 58-year-old man, along with a review of the existing literature. The patient presented with three lesions, the most recent being a patch on his right arm's posterior side. The other two, with an anetodermic appearance, had emerged 40 years earlier on his back and right arm (Figure 1ac). Dermoscopy of the recent patch revealed purpuric blood spots on a yellow background, while the other two lesions exhibited an erythematous background with interrupted pigmented networks and perifollicular translucent aspects (Figure 1d-f). Histopathological examination confirmed AE, featuring an increase and degenerative alteration of the elastic fibers with notable basophilia and an accumulation of amyloid-compatible amorphous material in the reticular dermis. Orcein staining further verified a collection of dystrophic elastic fibers surrounded by amorphous material that stained positive for Red Congo with apple-green birefringence under polarized microscopy.
